falling for you

This is a poem I wrote in January 2019 for a friend who had shared stories of her inconsequential past crushes; it was intended for her to connect with feelings of the past and as a very subtle, metaphorical way of confessing my feelings for her that would also end up being inconsequential (I didn’t foresee any potential relationship).

my thoughts of you

are like vapors

condensing in a raincloud

until it bursts

downcast droplets plummet

ceaselessly toward the vast, unknown

ocean of your heart

to discover what lies beneath

love,

like raindrops

swept away

by the elusive currents of time

swallowed

by the cold, raging waves of circumstance
